music and sport not by Andrew Porter

The Howard Cosell of new music seems to have defined the "scene" as if it were professional baseball.  

OK hear me out. You see the young talent gets picked up by the major leagues (universities and performing institutions) to have a great career before becoming coaches to the next generation.  The problem with this model is that a composer or any artist (except maybe singers and actors) can exist outside of a scene. 

Of course these folks would never get to Howard Cosell's attention.
